God said, “Let there be light, and there was light.”

A declaration, a mission, marking the beginning of creation but also the beginning of the battle between good and evil, light and darkness.

God created light first. It’s so important, it has to be right at the start. Because the light He’s creating and talking about isn’t the sun for the earth, it’s about the promise of His Son for the world.

4,000 years after God created light, Jesus was born. “In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

These words speak about the battle, that struggle to choose light in a world full of darkness. We have a way to follow, God showed it to us through His son, Jesus.

“For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

If we choose to follow Jesus, to be like Jesus, to love each other like Jesus loves us, we will be in the light. We will shine in the darkness, we will not be overcome. “Let there be light” is a call to action for us all each and every day.

So when the world tells you that love is a weakness, let there be light. When greed and anger threaten to take over your mind, let there be light. When stress, sorrow, sadness and pain seem to consume you into darkness, let there be light.

"I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” - Jesus

Let there be light, let there be Jesus.
